Teacher Guide

This guide takes you from zero to running your first lab class: creating a class, inviting students, building an assignment with a practice question, and grading. It takes about 20 minutes to read and try.

1. Sign in and activate a plan

  1. Open classroom.circzy.com and sign in with your Google account.
  2. On the Classroom home page, click Try for free for a trial, or open the Plan page to choose a paid plan.
  3. For a paid plan, choose Monthly or Per semester, enter a promo code if you have one, then pick a payment method. The plan activates automatically after payment.

Your plan status, free seats and end date are always shown on the Classroom home page.

2. Create a class

  1. Click Create class.
  2. Fill in the Class name (for example Grade 11 – Microcontrollers) and Subject.
  3. Click Save. The class page opens with four tabs: Assignments & exams, Students, Gradebook and Settings.

3. Invite students

Open the Students tab. There are three ways to invite:

MethodWhen to use it
Class code (7 letters/digits)Write it on the board; students type it on the Classroom home page.
LinkShare it in a WhatsApp group, Google Classroom or your school LMS.
QR codeShow it on the projector so students scan it with their phone camera.

Students who join appear in the list with their name, email and student ID (if required).

Control who can join

In the Settings tab:

If the code leaks to people who should not join, click New code. The old code and link stop working immediately.

4. Create an assignment or exam

In the Assignments & exams tab, click New assignment or New exam.

Preparing a practice question

  1. Add a Simulator practice question and write the task clearly, for example "Connect an LED to pin 9 and make it blink every 500 ms."
  2. Choose the board to use.
  3. Click Set up starter circuit. The simulator opens: add the parts or code that every student starts from. Leave it empty if students should build from scratch.
  4. Click Done, then Save.

Assignment settings

Click Publish to make the assignment visible to students. Before that, it is a Draft. Once a student starts working, the questions are locked; the title, instructions and schedule can still be changed.

5. Monitor and grade

Click Student answers on an assignment. The table shows every student with:

Click Grade to open a student's answers:

  1. Multiple choice scores are already filled in.
  2. For practice questions, click Open student's circuit, run the simulation, try its buttons or sensors, then go back. Changes in review mode are not saved.
  3. Enter a score per question and a note for the student, then Save score.

Students who ran into problems (power cut, phone died) can be given extra time; the assignment reopens for that student only.

6. Gradebook

The Gradebook tab shows every assignment score for every student plus the average. Scores not yet graded are shown as "·". Click Download CSV to open it in Excel or Google Sheets and copy it into your report.

7. End of term

Teacher questions

Do students need a paid Circzy account? No. Students only need a Google account and get Pro features while working in your class.

Can students use phones? Yes. The simulator is built for touch screens, although a laptop is more comfortable for large circuits.

Can practice questions be graded automatically? In Classroom, practice questions are graded by the teacher. Automatic practical grading is available in Circzy Certification.

What if students copy each other? Use timed exams, shuffled question order and blocked pasting, and watch the left-the-tab column. You can open every student's circuit one by one to compare them.
