Offline Installation

The offline version of Circzy runs locally on your computer. The installer downloads the Arduino tools and board packages once; after that you can work offline.

Requirements

ItemRequirement
Operating systemWindows 10 or Windows 11
Node.js20.19 or newer, or 22.12 or newer. The current LTS version from nodejs.org works.
Disk spaceAt least 8 GB free on the drive that holds the Circzy folder
InternetNeeded during the first installation and when installing new libraries
BrowserA recent version of Chrome, Edge or Firefox

Step 1: Extract the folder

Extract the circzy folder from the zip file to the root of a drive, so that you get E:\circzy (or C:\circzy, D:\circzy, and so on).

Step 2: Run the setup

Double-click setup.bat. A console window opens and installs, in order:

  1. arduino-cli, the command-line version of the Arduino IDE.
  2. The Arduino AVR package (Uno, Nano, Mega).
  3. The Raspberry Pi Pico package (about 300 MB).
  4. The STM32 package (about 500 MB).
  5. The ESP32 package (about 1 GB download, 4–5 GB once installed).
  6. The ESP8266 package (about 150 MB).
  7. The libraries used by Circzy parts and blocks (LCD, OLED, DHT, Servo, NeoPixel and others).
  8. The Node.js dependencies of the app.

The first installation usually takes 15–30 minutes, depending on your connection. Downloaded archives are deleted automatically when the setup finishes.

When you see Setup complete, the installation is finished.

Step 3: Start Circzy

Double-click start.bat. Two windows open:

WindowPurpose
Circzy ServerThe compile server at http://localhost:3001.
Circzy AppThe web app at http://localhost:5173. Your browser opens it automatically.

Keep both windows open while you work. To stop Circzy, close them.

Folder structure

circzy/
├── app/ The web app (React, Vite, Blockly and the emulators)
├── server/ The compile server (Node.js and arduino-cli)
├── tools/ Created by setup: arduino-cli, board packages and libraries
├── vendor/ Sources and patches of the ESP32 and ESP8266 emulators
├── setup.bat Installation
└── start.bat Starts Circzy

Updating Circzy

  1. Close both Circzy windows.
  2. Replace the app, server and vendor folders and the .bat files with the new version. Keep the tools folder: it contains the installed packages.
  3. Run setup.bat once to pick up new dependencies, then start.bat.

Your projects are stored in the browser, so they stay available after an update.

Uninstalling

Close Circzy and delete the circzy folder. Projects remain in the browser storage until you clear the site data for localhost:5173; download any project you want to keep first (see Saving & Sharing Projects).
